Departmental elephants are an integral part of wildlife conservation at Manas. While going on routine patrols with frontline forest personnel, these elephants play an important part of managing human wildlife conflicts, by driving wildlife back into the forest while helping our veterinarians to dart and capture wild animals, where required.

Departmental elephants play a critical role in scientific monitoring of wildlife when they are used to deploy camera traps in dificult terrain, count rhinos and wild elephants and most importantly in conducting line transects.

They are indeed nature’s ultimate four “wheel” drive!

Your contribution makes you a part of wildlife conservation at Manas which will be used for upkeep of these departmental elephants and mahouts.
